This tetraploid variety produces small, bicoloured purple and cream tubers with cream/purple mottled flesh.

Best for boiling but also makes a fine flavoured mash.

Other: When planted in cold weather (early spring) the plants can produce leaves with interveinal chlorosis. It is a yellowing of the leaves which will get better when the weather warms up and is not a disease. The plants just have a problem taking up nutrients when they’re cold.

6 tubers.

  • Low dormancy: 3-4 weeks
  • Storage until planting: keep in a dark place until ready to plant, but if they start sprouting earlier, place tubers in a bright place. The light will stop the sprouts from growing too much. Plant 3-5 weeks before you expect your first frosts to finish. I plant mine in September here in southern Victoria. See ‘storage’ page for tips on overwintering tubers.

NOTE: potatoes grown over summer produce less and smaller tubers than those grown over cooler weather in spring. This is normal.

To see a video of me harvesting some Mozart:    This variety starts at 30 secs.
