YAY: I’m going to be growing and selling seeds again. it will be on a much smaller scale since I don’t have as much land any more, but my sister is going to be growing at her place too, which’ll help. Please be patient, the seed store will be up and going within a month.
Garden Larder® specialty potato breeding … Future heirlooms
My name is Rowan. Garden Larder® is a small potato breeding business in Western Victoria, Australia. My aim is to produce new and delicious varieties of potatoes for home gardeners and market gardeners. Future heirloom potatoes more suited to climate change that can withstand hotter, dryer, longer growing seasons.
Up until now there has been limited choice of potatoes for home growers to choose from and I aim to fix that by offering new varieties every year. Varieties that differ in shape, colour and flavour to suit everyone.
I don’t work with modern types of potatoes so mine are usually smaller but with more variety than the moderns, including a greater range of colour, flavour, heat, disease, and frost tolerance. Mine generally have a creamier, stickier texture than you might be used to but they make a beautiful creamy mash, and very colourful potato salads.
Shop is now CLOSED, reopens in July/Aug
This variety was named after I placed a naming competition on Linkedin. The winner named it after herself – Nellie
New varieties that should be available around Christmas 2021
Looks similar to ‘Number 13’ but with white flesh and not quite as lumpy. Best for baking.
A small tubered variety that has purple skin and flesh. Really tasty, navy blue mash.
